However, this is not the same as saying that any one individual is more likely to [do X] than click on banner ads.

Still, I’m not disagreeing with the general premise. Banner advertising has been watered down recently with poorly designed campaigns. In addition, web surfers have become more savvy about ignoring them. I impress myself sometimes with my ability to close a pop up window before the ad can even load, for example.
